Imagine how it must feel to be the parent of a five year old who appears to be lagging developmentally behind the other five year olds, but also being reassured by doctors he or she will eventually catch up. Then imagine being told your child has Autism. This news can be devastating, and it happens to nearly 100,000 parents every year in the United States alone. Complicating matters, there’s already a lot of misinformation out there about this little-understood condition which is marked by social withdrawal, repetitive behaviors and poor communication skills.
