Ema’s Story

Ema is a five year old girl who was born with Apert Syndrome along with many other medical issues and deformities. Apert Syndrome is a congenital disorder which causes craniofacial abnormality (deformities relating to the face, skull, and jaw) characterized by an abnormal head shape, small upper jaw, a high-arched palate that affects the upper and lower jaw, and fusion of the fingers and toes. Ema’s condition requires extensive evaluations and multiple extensive surgeries; the first treatment has already begun to take place to separate her hands and toes so she can have full mobility.

Ema will also need extensive surgeries on her face and palate, as well as dental services since her condition can cause effects on the development of her teeth.
